Injecting Hope Instead of Drugs

Alcohol detox treatment

From 2002 to 2011, the amount of people between the ages of 50 and 59 using illegal drugs tripled. The National Institutes of Health said that, in 2002, there were 900,000 people from that group using illicit drugs, and there were 2.7 million by 2011. Detox centers provide people who are addicted to substances with a place where they can try and beat their addiction.

The first part of the the recovery process from addiction is drug detox. Drug detox centers and alcohol detox centers provide detox facilities for detox treatment. The US Department of Health and Human Services division of SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) defines detoxification as “A set of interventions aimed at managing acute intoxication and withdrawal.” The definition goes on to say that detoxification that is done under supervision could prevent complications that could threaten the life of the patient of he or she went untreated.

The amount of time that an addicted patient needs to spend in a detox center varies. The different factors include the individual, the drug they were addicted to, and the atmosphere of the detox center. The final step in a detox center is to prepare a patient to move into addiction treatment.

Detox centers are designed to help addicted persons begin to overcome their addiction. Obviously, a detox center can only help so much, but it is a great place for people interested in defeating an addiction to get the ball rolling.

  1. I did not know that there were detox centers. I have never used any substance, so I had never really thought about it. That is good to know in case I ever need to help somebody that is dealing with that stuff.

  2. I feel like a lot of people are alcoholics but would never admit it. They go to the bars and get drunk, but they see that as normal in our culture. I think those people have a problem.
