Moving tips and tricks are some of the easiest ways to make a move more convenient, if not altogether cheaper. If you are moving this summer, as a lot of people, whether they are families or college students, are likely to do, then one thing that you will have to acknowledge is that you will probably have to pay more than you want to pay when you move. But doesn’t everybody? Movers can provide advice on cheap moving tricks. But there are moving tips and tricks that are even cheaper.

Are you a college student? Then you can probably come up with some of the oldest and cheapest tricks for moving in the book. Many of these you can think of on your own, but moving requires that you be proactive also. Use social media to find friends or other students who are moving to the same place.

Sometimes, this can save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. For example, a lot of college students in Texas will likely be moving to places like Houston to intern in the oil and gas industries in the summer. A good piece of moving advice for these students is to find other students who are doing the same thing. What does this do? It allows them to consolidate their belongings.

And when you are just moving somewhere for a summer, there are not a lot of belongings to consolidate. Even when students provide these moving services to their peers pro bono, there are other financial benefits. After all, if you are driving a pickup truck, as students in Texas are likely to do, it can never hurt to split that 100 USD gas bill. Gasoline is not cheap.

This is just one way to save hundreds of dollars on a move. There are numerous other ways to hitch a ride or find a cheap deal with a moving company. But it is moving season. Millions of people want to rent the same trailer you want to rent. That means there is more competition out there. When facing that competition, make sure you use your head, or your pocketbook will be paying the not so small price.

  1. My pocketbook is always paying the price for these things. The thing is, though, it is usually not me doing the moving. It is usually my ex who wants to do the moving to some other place. Usually, I pay the price if it’s in the opposite direction.

  2. I am sorry to hear that you feel that way. I pay for my kids to move home every summer, though I’m beginning to think that they don’t need a rental trailer for the car. They just need to fill their cars up.
